Dear Parents, below are some updates regarding the class’ progress for Term 1.
Chapters covered:
We have already finished Chapter 6 from the textbook, that is page 55. For Term 1, we have also finished 2 composition exercises.
Areas the pupils are still weak in:
With regards to my analysis for their CA1 papers, I have found out that the boys are rather weak in their 阅读理解A (新闻) (MCQ Reading Comprehension for News) and 阅读理解B (广告) (MCQ Reading Comprehension for advertisement). As for their composition, most of them are already able to complete the composition and are very familiar with the format of a good composition. As for their Reading Comprehension (Open-ended), most of the boys are able to answer the “why” questions, however, they are still rather weak in the “how” and “opinion” questions.
Strategies to tackle the above-mentioned weaknesses:
I will be focusing on their MCQ Reading Comprehension for News and advertisements, and will equip the boys with the skills to find the correct answers through the clues given from the passage/advertisements. I will show them examples of these skills, before letting them complete the worksheets themselves.
As for their composition, since they already have the basic writing skills, I will expose the boys to more techniques of writing, for instance 开头写法.
As for the Reading Comprehension (Open-ended), I will design more of such questions during lessons, and will teach them this “template” in answering all the “how” and “opinion” questions. With this “template”, they are able to answer the key points of the questions better.
The above-mentioned are just some strategies I have as of now. Throughout the term, I will assess their progress and will make the necessary adjustments to our lessons.
Recommendations:
I would recommend parents to refer to www1.moe.edu.sg/dir/cl/ for the flash of the passages in their textbook. The boys do need to do some reading on their own. Their reading materials need not be very long stories, any short stories or even a short news article will also be useful to them.
Hope that my short update would be of some help to you. If you need anymore clarifications, feel free to let me know.
Thank you.
Congratulations to the below-mentioned boys for achieving excellent results for your CA1.

Keep up your good work!
Dear Parents,
I understand that quite a number of parents came to look for me on Thursday for the Meet-the-parents session. Unfortunately I was very sick the day before and was on medical leave on Thursday. And because for the whole of next week, I will be having full day course at the NIE, and will not be back in school, I would only be able to call some parents when school reopens.
Hence, if you have any immediate concern regarding your son’s work for Chinese, please email me at mah.laoshi@gmail.com. Or if you would like me to call you when school reopens, please also send an email to me, indicating your contact number.
Thank you very much for your kind understanding.
Dear Parents,
Please be informed that the CA1 papers have been returned to the boys today. I would like to seek your help in ensuring that they show you their papers for your signature before returning the papers to me for filing tomorrow.
Thank you.
