Dear Parents,

The boys learned the above-mentioned poem last week. Not only did they learn to recite the poem, they had also learned the meaning behind this poem. And at the end of the lesson, they were asked to draw a picture about it to show how well they had understand the poem. And below are some very impressive works done by the boys.

Term 2 Updates

Dear Parents, below are some updates regarding the class’ progress for Term 2.

Chapters covered:
We have already finished the whole of textbook 4A. Hence, the boys should be bringing textbook 4B when school reopens. We have also finished a total of 4 composition exercises for Semester 1.

Areas the pupils are still weak in:
With regards to my analysis for their SA1 papers, most of the boys have made improvement in their 理解问答 (Reading Comprehension Open-Ended), 阅读理解A (新闻) (MCQ Reading Comprehension for News) and 阅读理解B (广告) (MCQ Reading Comprehension for advertisement). However, as the boys are still not very familiar with reading news and advertisements, most of the time they feel very lost in finding the right clues or answers.

As for their composition, most of them have improved alot for their composition. We have only 1 failure for their SA1 Paper 1. However, what I have noticed is that the boys tend to repeat their mistakes for every of their composition exercises, and even in their actual examination. Most of them are very careless most of the time.

Strategies to tackle the above-mentioned weaknesses:

I will continue to expose them to more reading materials from the news and advertisements. Therefore, one of the holiday assignments for this June holiday is to have them cut out newspaper articles, and write about their opinions about the news. This exercise is only a start for them to have the habit to read newspapers.

As for their composition, I will be compiling a set of notes which includes all the mistakes which they have done before, so that they are more aware of their mistakes and will not lose marks unnecessarily because of their carelessness.

The above-mentioned are just some strategies I have as of now. Throughout the term, I will assess their progress and will make the necessary adjustments to our lessons.

Recommendations:
The boys can still continue to refer to www1.moe.edu.sg/dir/cl/ for the flash of the passages in their textbook.

The boys can also purchase any guide books which includes compilation of model compositions. Though they already have the basic writing skills, they need to be exposed to how other people write, because afterall, they not only competes among themselves, they need to compete among people from other schools nationwide at PSLE. After reading each model composition, they can try to re-write the whole composition which they have read to see how they can make that composition better.

Hope that my short update would be of some help to you. If you need anymore clarifications, feel free to let me know.

Thank you. D
